Today we usher in the lunar new year of the rat. All things gold, red and auspicious adorn homes, shopping malls and Chinatown. It's a big celebration as the Chinese organise their family reunion dinners, visit relatives and friends and just enjoy the festive cookies and cakes. I've grown to appreciate the Lunar New Year more over the years as beneath all the traditional practices is the coming together of people who in some way or other have touched our lives and whom we do not meet very often.

Oh, You make lights and hang them up in The Lunar Year? Is it a tradition? We just make sacrifice and bows to our ancestors and visit their graves. :P Going to hometown for a family reunion is one of the biggest things here, too :) I went to my hometown and made an sacrifice for my ancestors, and bowed to my parents. :)

@pLusOne: A happy lunar new year to you :) Lanterns and lights are some of the traditional decorations. There are also the new year posters with Chinese wishes, pussy willows, tangerine plants, flowers, etc. We have family reunion dinners on the eve of the new year which is usually a delicious spread of food and of course, we will pay our respects to our elders and parents. Thanks for visiting my photoblog.
great and have a good couler... thx
