PERANAKAN CROCKERY - 1ST OF 7

Posted by aggie (Singapore, Singapore) on 4 November 2007 in Art & Design.

Peranakans are Straits born Chinese. My aunt married into a Peranakan family and there began a wonderful introduction to Peranakan culture and cuisine. Peranakan food is delicious. A blend of Chinese and spicy ingredients. After my uncle passed on, my aunt decided to move in with her children and move out of the Katong district and the lovely old black and white house she and her husband and family had occupied for generations. As she did her packing she came across old Peranakan bowls, cups and pots. Although old, they were still beautiful and she gave them all to me! I have kept them to this day and hope to hand them down to the next generation. This week, you will see a sample of the Peranakan crockery which I hope you will enjoy.
